Clone a VR Headset to Update a Device Fleet without Wifi

If a fleet of devices requires an update and the headsets do not have access to wifi, there are two ways to deploy module updates:

1. Use an MDM (ArborXR) configuration package

2. Use SideQuest to clone a VR headset - Prerequisites for using this method:

  1. The VR headsets within the device fleet must already be registered to Promisevr.com
  2. One VR headset must have downloaded the chosen experience(s) that you wish to transfer to the other headsets

Step 1: Open SideQuest (click here for instructions on how to install SideQuest).

Step 2: Connect the headset with all the chosen experience(s) that you wish to transfer to your computer via USB.  Accept permissions in the headset.

Step 3: Download the MothFlame folder and exclude the following subfolders, if applicable: Assessments, Logs, and Save Progress. This prevents unnecessary duplication of analytics data across devices.

Note: Do not delete the MothFlame folder from any of the devices you connect to SideQuest.

In this case delete the Logs and SavedProgress folders

Step 4: Disconnect that headset.

Step 5: Connect a headset that doesn’t yet have the module files and drag and drop the applicable contents of the MothFlame folder from the previous headset (namely, the "md5cache," "Modules," and "app..." folders) into the existing MothFlame folder.

Note: You DO NOT need to delete anything from the MothFlame folder of the device receiving the files.

Note: If the MothFlame folder is accidentally deleted on this headset, it will need to connect to wifi to re-download the device token that was previously assigned to it.
